Built by practitioners
StratMonk is a project delivery consultancy working nationally across Australia, and internationally, on major infrastructure projects.
Why we exist
The outcome of a major project is determined by the strength of the functions that steer it — commercial and contractual, cost and estimating, planning and project controls, design and engineering, and construction and project management. These functions are routinely under-resourced, and frequently engaged only once difficulty has become visible in the numbers.
By that point the position has usually been eroding for some time. Entitlement has been diminished by silence, the records are insufficient to establish what occurred, and the relationship between the parties has deteriorated to the point where matters are no longer resolved commercially.
StratMonk was established to bring that capability forward — so that when the difficult conversation arrives, it is led by people who have held the same position before.
Strategy, held to a monk’s discipline
Strat, from strategy — the discipline of setting a position and holding it under pressure. Monk, from the monastic idea of rigour — singular focus, no shortcuts, regardless of the pressure a project is under. It is a reference to method, not the animal.
Strategy and discipline are not opposites. They are the same task at different scales.
Strategy is knowing which contract to sign, which packages to combine, which claim to run and which to release. Discipline is the unglamorous work that makes any of it stand up — reading the whole clause, serving the notice within the window, and keeping the records that turn an argument into an entitlement.
Few firms sustain both. StratMonk was structured deliberately to do so.
Clause by clause. Dollar by dollar.
Five commitments
Candour
Difficult assessments are communicated early. Our advice reflects our view of the matter, not what is convenient to hear.
Independence
We hold no incentive tied to the scale of a dispute, to downstream work, or to referral arrangements. Our advice is what we consider correct.
Capability, not only counsel
Whether advising or embedded within a delivery team, every person we field has performed the role before. We do not place people to learn on a client’s project.
The true position
Programmes, forecasts and reports state the actual position of the works, however unwelcome. Controls exist to inform decisions, not to reassure.
Rigour in execution
From a notice served within its window to a design decision documented and a package delivered to programme, the standard is uniform across every function we field.
Every side of the table
Many advisers have occupied a single vantage point throughout their careers. StratMonk’s experience spans the full breadth of project delivery — Tier 1 contractor, client-side delivery partner and subcontractor. That experience extends to joint venture board, steering committee and executive management level, where delivery decisions are tested against the commercial position before they are made.
This matters because commercial positions are relative. The same clause is a shield from one position and a weapon from another, and anticipating how the opposing party will read it is much of the work.
Leadership
Amir has led commercial functions for Tier 1 contractors, a global delivery partner and a Fortune 100 technology business, spanning contractor, client and subcontractor positions across Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and Asia.
Amir holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Construction Law and Practice from the University of Salford, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Griffith University.
His work has spanned the full delivery cycle — establishing and mobilising the commercial function on multi-billion-dollar projects from award, and carrying it through delivery to close-out. It has included negotiating contract model resets from lump sum to cost-reimbursable, recovering distressed project positions, securing insurance indemnities, establishing alliance commercial functions from inception, and leading procurement across a giga-project portfolio.
An established network
Behind the firm sits a network of senior commercial, controls, planning, design, engineering and delivery professionals — people we have worked alongside on major infrastructure projects across Australia and internationally, and whose work we know first-hand.
They are currently engaged at every level of the supply chain: within principal organisations, Tier 1 contractors, delivery partners and specialist subcontractors, and across roles from contract administrator and project controls engineer through to commercial manager, design manager and project director.
This is why StratMonk can respond quickly. When a project requires a specialist, the conversation begins with people already known to the firm and already operating in the relevant sector, rather than with a search.
